STRONG B.O.: Mel’s blood stronger than Leo’s
Tom Cruise’s meltdown on Oprah’s couch hurt the performance of the entertaining MISSION IMPOSSIBLE 3, so I was very surprised to see alcoholic, Jew-hating, chauvinist Mel Gibson top the box office weekend with his subtitled, gore-filled Aztec drama, APOCALYPTO.
I was equally startled to see Leonardo DiCaprio’s BLOOD DIAMOND debut below the 4th week of HAPPY FEET and CASINO ROYALE. The estimated $8.5 million opening is Leo’s softest for a wide release since 1995’S THE QUICK & THE DEAD.
I wonder if this review had anything to do with it.
Anybody else surprised?
